Burlington Accommodation Desk
The School operates its own accommodation desk,
exclusively for the use of students attending the Burlington School.
Before arriving in London, each student receives a short description of
the type of accommodation and their host family. This includes details
of the various interests of the family members and information about
the house and its location. We suggest that you complete your
accommodation arrangements several weeks before you arrive, especially
if you require accommodation arranged by the School during July or
August. This helps to ensure that you will be happy with your
accommodation.
Accommodation to Suit Your Needs
You may choose to live with an English-speaking family
in their home. 'English-speaking family', as used here, usually means a
husband and wife, or a husband and wife with children, living in the
same house. However, there are many families which have one adult and
child or an adult (usually a landlady) living alone. Certain host
family homestay accommodation is of an exceptional high standard, and
for these homes the category of homestay plus applies. Or, you
may prefer independent accommodation, either in a separate part of a
family home, or in a house with other students, but no landlord on the
premises. We are continually expanding the range of accommodation
available, including on-site residential accommodation.
Meals
Meal times with your host family are valuable opportunities for you to practise
your speaking and listening skills in English. Different homestay meal arrangements
are available. The School's standards for student meals are covered in our
contract with landlords. The most frequently-requested meal arrangement is Half
Board. This means breakfast and dinner at the homestay: two meals per day,
seven days a week. Some students choose Breakfast Only (seven days a
week). Self-Catering means
students must purchase and prepare their own meals. The School's coffee bar
is open throughout the day and prepares a range of inexpensive good-quality
hot and cold food, and meals can be booked in advance at discounted rates.
Some students ask for special diets. These arrangements may be made if you
ask us at least four weeks in advance of your arrival in England. Lunch box
meals are available at the School on weekdays. There is a small cost for each
additional lunch box meal.
Burlington School Residence
If you would prefer more economical and convenient accommodation, why not
try the Burlington School Residence? It occupies the whole of the second floor
of the school building and has a veariety of shared rooms. There are full shower
facilities, plenty of storage space and area for making tea and coffee with
a small fridge.
Independent Accommodation
The School can place students where there is no English
family, and students live with other students and share common
amenities. This type of self-catering accommodation is referred to as Independent Accommodation
- and involves sharing a house and amenities without the landlord
living on the premises. Some of the rooms are single but there is the
possibility to share a room with a number of other independent
students.
Airport Transfers
The Burlington School has its own transfer service for
students arriving at all London airports and some railway or coach
stations in London. The student is welcomed by one of the School's
drivers. We transport the student directly to his or her accommodation.
For the cost for this service (one way, arranged in advance) please see
the table below. There may be an extra cost if your arrival is delayed
or postponed.
